D-(+)-Glucose has been used for culturing of mammalian cells. It has been used to study interactions between glucose and alanine and their influence on pentose phosphate pathway activity. It has been used to perform glucose tolerance test in mice.
General description
Glucose is the energy source of brain and of cells containing few or no mitochondria. It is also a substrate for anaerobic glycolysis. The human body stores glucose in the form of glycogen. Under low glucose conditions, it is released from liver and kidney via glycogen. Glucose is also required for the formation of di-, oligo- and polysaccharides.
