Sauchinone is an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant lignan isolated from Saururus chinensis a medical plant used for the treatment of fever, jaundice, oedema and inflammatory disease in oriental folk medicine. Sauchinone inhibits LPS-inducible iNOS (NOS II), TNF-α and COX-2 expression in macrophages through suppression of IKBα phosphorylation. It appears that sauchinone protects against myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury by inhibition of p28 phosphorylation.
